The 2.4GHz ActivHub is a USB device which is plugged directly into the computer. All 2.4 GHz devices are registered to the ActivHub, including the ActivBoard 100 and 300 Series. The communication utilises Promethean’s own 2.4 GHz protocol, ActivAir, which is secure and works well with other equipment using the 2.4 GHz band.
ActivAir works in a similar way to Bluetooth in that it channel hops to avoid interference. It operates in the same highly regulated and globally approved 2.4 GHz frequency range as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. It works over a range of 75 metres (free space). Unlike Bluetooth, because ActivAir is Promethean’s own technology, there is less risk of interference from other devices. Also, Bluetooth is designed to only enable simultaneous, short-range communication with up to seven specially paired devices. ActivAir enables the simultaneous use of vast numbers of Student Response Devices and hand held peripherals such as ActivSlates through a single computer connection.
Once devices are registered to the 2.4 GHz ActivHub, that hub can then be used in other computers, without the need to re-register any devices or ActivBoards.
